The Barwell Road Improvement Project is a three-quarter-mile roadway widening and realignment effort that will enhance safety, mobility, and infrastructure in Southeast Raleigh. The project includes the realignment of Pearl Road, creating a new, signalized intersection to improve traffic flow. Roadway improvements feature widening with a two-way left-turn lane, grading that requires approximately 24,000 cubic yards of borrow material, and the installation of new pedestrian and bicycle facilities, including a 10-foot multi-use path on one side of the corridor and a 6-foot sidewalk on the other.
Utility and infrastructure upgrades are a major component, with the installation of 4,000 linear feet of 12-inch ductile iron waterline, twin 42-inch bores, and 6,000 linear feet of storm drain supported by 80 precast structures. In addition, curb and gutter improvements will strengthen stormwater management. Conti will perform all construction activities while traffic is maintained in both directions throughout the process.
